Advance registration is closed for Community Mitzvah Day. Walk-ins are welcome. See you on Sunday!
Join fellow volunteers outdoors for a fun, inspiring “Friends of Jewish Cemeteries” (FJC) Har Jehuda Cemetery Cleanup. Help turn the tide of despair due to years of neglect, unstable ground, broken and fallen headstones. Your participation supports descendants, community members and neighbors along with those at rest.
The FJC is a special initiative of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia to find short-term and long-term solutions to repair our region’s Jewish cemeteries and reconnect our community to its deep local roots. We are a group of volunteers with a shared passion who have come together to explore viable ways to secure these sacred places.
Activities include: raking, picking up trash and clipping overgrown vines so that the names of the headstones can be seen. Tools will be provided. Bring garden clothes, gloves and a hat.
Bring family, friends, and groups. We encourage leaders to organize their networks (e.g., synagogues, men’s clubs, sisterhoods, boy and girl scouts, Sunday schools, sports teams, next-gen, young professional groups).
This volunteer opportunity is recommended for age 12 and up.
Hosting Organization’s COVID Policy: Masks are optional. Follow-up best practices of social distancing.
